A Chat With The Clamps About His New Single On Impact Music

Posted by Adam on 10th July 2017

Hi Julien, how are you?
I’m fine, feeling the summer and the hot long days.

How’s 2017 treating you so far? Any standout moments so far?
2017 started very good until now, had new music release on Trendkill (FTDS EP), a track on Invisible for their new Outlines series, some others Hardcore Industrial releases with label like PRSPCT & Karnage Records and a collab with Triamer, Nagato and Sinister Souls on Yellow Stripe. Had great gigs over Europe and great meetings, so I am happy of how it started.

What have you been up to since we last spoke?
When we last spoke we talked about the scene in France and whether it’s still thriving and attracting new fans. Yeah I think so, I can’t count the people involved in the scene, but it’s still growing. There are more and more good djs and new good producers, new labels, new listeners and great Bass Music events. Here in Toulouse, in despite of some club closures, there still is a great scene with a great connection all over the world.

You’ve got a new single out on a new, French label called Impact Music – how did you get involved with them?
I know Mc Fly (owner of the label) since a bit now, and we have a good friendship. He is very involved into the scene, playing sick dj set, working in DNB France collective, doing Radio Show supporting tracks. So when he told me that he was working on his own label, with a large view for the dnb, and asked me if I would like to do a release for IM, I jumped into it with great pleasure. It’s always a treat to make music for a friend and even more if it’s for a new label with a great musical vision. It was supposed to be only in Digital, but when he told me it could be a Vinyl release, I was even more hyped. I know the hard work to keep doing vinyl in the digital era, and how much it costs, so it gave me more respect for him. The guy knows where he wants to go and for sure he’ll go even more far!!!

How would you describe the tunes – do you feel like you’ve found a sound you’re happy with and that people have come to know you for now?
It’s always hard to be fully satisfied about his own music, but yeah I know where I want to go, so I’m still working even more, trying new things in different kind of music. I have the chance to have a good auditory following me in DNB like in Hardcore, and I’m always happy when someone is supporting me. I feel the happiness to live with music. About my music, it’s a kind of mix between hard stuff, bangers, energy, with some messages about how I feel the world around me. Positive feelings is the key for me to live in this world, so I hope people can feel it in my tracks.

The track titles are interesting too…any story behind either of them?
About MK Ultra, after seeing TV news archive on 2nd French channel (France 2) about the mass incident poisoning at Pont St Esprit, a small town in France, suggesting that was maybe a CIA experiment, I watched some others documentary about the project MK Ultra, a CIA control mind program.
I think there is a part of true within this kind of documentary but with a lot of false stories, hoax or urban legend. But it feeds my love for the science fiction.

What tracks are smashing it in your sets at the minute?
There are so much tracks I love to play, new ones by Signs are fucking huge. Love guys like Merikan, Prolix, Akrom, Inward, Hanzo and Randie, Agressor Bunx, Qo, Splash Heads to name a few. In a harder way, love Igneon System, I:Gor, Outside Agency, Penta, Deathmachine, Satan. The list never end. But if you need tracks names, I just give one “The Satan – Beast”.

And what have you got in store for the rest of the year?
I’m working on new tracks, got few remix incoming too and few collabs planned in dnb and in Industrial. I can’t say more for the moment, but there will be something special in Autumn with Kosenprod.

Thanks! Is there anything else you want to tell us about?
Big shout out to all who support me and my music, to my Kosen / Karnage family, the Enter The Grid Agency, Prolix and Trendkill, my friends and to all the people with whom I share good vibes. And Large Up Impact Music!!!

You can buy the new single on vinyl here and digital via Beatport or Juno.
