Leonardo de Jesus Silva, better known as L-Side began his career as a DJ & Producer in 2008. Originally producing hip-hop beats but then branching into DnB, L Side’s branch of minimal Drum and Bass fuses aggression and funk with stunning results.
Fresh off the back of not only having five tunes featured on the latest instalment of Chronic Rollers but mixing it too I caught up with him to discuss the album and what he has in store for 2017.
2016 is almost a distant memory now but are they any big moments that have stuck with you from last year?
Haha, From last year for sure are “Killer Transmissions feat. T.R.A.C” things, many DJ’s playing that track, makes me happy!
So you’ve not only mixed the latest instalment of Chronic Rollers you also have no less than five tunes featured on it. How did you get so heavily involved with the project?
Yeah, I like to produce different styles in Drum & Bass, sometimes I did much rollin’ Beats or Jump Up tracks. Then, Bryan [Gee] always playing and the people like it, Chronic Rollers Vol. 3 are the perfect combination with that vibes i think.
How much planning did the mix take or was it a case of diving in and seeing what worked?
I heard track by track, felt the vibes and created a folder with the best tracks to play in sequence.
All of your tracks on the LP have their own distinct sound. How would you sum up your style in general and what’s your favourite of the 5 tunes on the album?
1. Jaybee – All Night
2. L-Side – Soundclash
3. Serum – Wiretap VIP
4. Abstr4ct – Tiger
5. L-Side & Sound Energy – Fortress
Ok, your own tunes aside which other tunes on the album really do it for you?
Command Strange – Never Too Much & L-Side – Put Em’ Up VIP
What else can we expect to hear from you in 2017?
2017 will be a great year for me, I’m working my first album on V Recordings. Already have some great names like DRS, MC Fox, Ras Tweed, Inja and many more.
Thanks mate, is there anything else you want to tell us about?
Thank you bro, want to thank all Brazilian producers and DJ’s, V Recordings and all the people like L-Side work, Big up!
