Gerra & Stone – Unbreakable Remix EP (Dispatch Recordings)

Posted by Dan on 3rd October 2016

In the summer of 2015, Gerra & Stone released what was undoubtedly one of my favourite records that year, the Unbreakable EP, on Dispatch Recordings. Of course, upon hearing that a remix EP was to be released, I was rather sceptical at the prospect. However, the outcome was massively impressing, and I needn’t have had any doubts whatsoever about the talents of the featured remixers.

The EP begins with Zero T‘s remix of the gorgeous Unbreakable, complete with rolling, energetic drums, cheeky bongos and a deep moving sub, while the emotion of the original is well preserved. Meanwhile, the rugged monster that is Plates is completely flipped on its head by the geniuses that are Blocks & Escher, who transform it into an ominous, jazzy tune, and my personal favourite of the EP. Finally, Almost U is brilliantly twisted with distorted growls and jungle breaks by the well-known Utopia boss Mako, and complimented nicely by those delicate piano touches.

This remix EP shows three awesome tracks taken in three very different directions, each one superb in its own way. It is, without a doubt, worth picking up, and I’ll let you decide if it matches up to the original EP!
