Drum&BassArena Awards 2015: The Results

Posted by Adam on 2nd December 2015

Last night saw the return of the Drum&BassArena Awards for the 7th time as the scenes biggest names donned their best snapbacks and Stussy t-shirts to celebrate another big year for DnB.

Proceedings were kicked off by 3 x UK DMC champ jfb with a furious scratch routine over some seriously speedy mixing; blending together what felt like hundreds of tunes from DnB’s rich 20 odd year history.

Hosting duties fell to Charlie Tee who returns for the 4th time to centre stage which was shared this time around with the one and only Jenna G.

So let’s get down to the awards themselves and there are some real surprises in here…

Best Video
Netsky ft. Digital Farm Animals – Rio

Can’t say this would have been my pick. Personally I’d have gone for Delta Heavy’s Ghost – how can you not love the revenge of Clippy!

Best Newcomer DJ
Maduk
Maduk

Maduk won best newcomer producer last year so fair play to him on this one.

Best Newcomer MC
MC Coppa

Best Newcomer Producer
Cartoon

Possibly the biggest surprise of the night here. Estonian 3 piece band Cartoon took best newcomer prodcer despite a lot of people, in the UK especially, not actually knowing who they are. This is the reality, I suppose, of a scene that is bigger than it ever has been; DnB may have started in the UK but it’s no longer just ours – we share it with the entire world and my guess is that these guys won because of big voting numbers from mainland Europe.

Best Club Night
Hospitality (Obviously)

Hospitality

Best Festival
Let It Roll

Let It Roll

Best Live Act
Noisia

Another big surprise here especially as, in their words, “we’ve never done a live show”…

Best Label
Hospital Records

Best Remix
The Prodigy – Nasty (Spor Remix)

Big remix for sure but Mefjus’ remix of Sunday Crunk would have been my pick

Best Track
Noisia & The Upbeats – Dead Limit

Another win for Noisia and undoubtedly a big tune but….what about The View?!

Best Album
Mefjus – Emulation

This is a huge album which, rather interestingly, came out in 2014…

Drum & Bass Arena Hall Of Fame
Diane Charlemagne R.I.P

Diane Charlemagne

Mampi Swift

This year there were 2 inductees to the hall of fame. First off is the sadly departed and infinitely talented Diane Charlemagne and, one of my favourite DJs & Producers, Mampi Swift

Best Vocalist
Riya

Best MC
MC Dynamite

Best Producer
Noisia

Another win for these 3 and well deserved – it’s no secret that there productions are second to none.

Best DJ
Do I even need to say who won this?

Yep….Andy C again. Well done mate!
